Owners and mechanics undertaking the repair or restoration of FAA certified aircraft are required to maintain the certification standards for that aircraft, and responsible for ascertaining the FAA approval of a product, or its suitability for installation. Those components and mechanical work are governed by CFR 21.303 and various provisions in part 43 of the Federal aviation regulations.

FAA-PMA NEW

Classic Aero Support is not a producer of aircraft parts or materials. It does provide such components produced by other FAA-PMA certified vendors.

CAS sources hundreds of FAA-PMA parts and FAA Approved materials from a variety of sources as a service to its customers. Where a consistent and a continuing market demand is demonstrated, CAS will contract bulk procurements of FAA-PMA production from vendors who are qualified and capable of such production. This is done to expand cost-effective parts availability and to assist owners and restorer’s of vintage airplanes with their needs. Those FAA-PMA procurements of parts and support will be expanded as demand is responsive to the supply.

PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED

CAS also has available many recycled parts and components, or NOS and consignment parts provided by third parties.

Disclaimer- Any parts or materials without a specific FAA-PMA approval affixed may not be FAA approved, and obtaining approval or the rendering of suitability opinions is the responsibility of the installer/owner, or his/her mechanic. These approvals are often documented by FAA form 337 field approvals, and/or FAA engineering or DER reviews for which an FAA form 8110 is issued. Consultation on these kinds of projects can be arranged upon request.

TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

CAS personnel are also available to assist with restoration projects or to work with owners on custom fabrications to approved technical data, or for assistance in developing data and obtaining FAA approvals for their installation. These are undertaken by properly licensed technicians upon a request or delivery of owner specifications for his/her aircraft application.

Many parts and materials used in vintage airplanes were originally procured from automotive and industrial sources at the time of manufacture of those CAA or FAA certified aircraft. These components were delivered to the manufacturer, then became “FAA approved” by passing through the aircraft manufacturer’s quality system. Suppliers of vintage materials and components still supply the marketplace- but often not with FAA approved parts. CAS can assist the owner in procuring replacement parts from such sources and with obtaining various FAA approvals for their use.

RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER / OPERATOR / MECHANIC

It is the owner’s responsibility to obtain FAA approvals when installing any components upon FAA certified airplanes. All purchases of materials and parts obtained from other than FAA-PMA sources are for the convenience of the owner and installer who affirms that he understands those responsibilities and will abide the FAA regulations related to the maintenance of FAA/CAA certified aircraft.
